Playad's AI avatar generator lets you build a reusable presenter from scratch or choose one from the shared library, then put that avatar straight to work in video ad creative. You can generate an appearance from a text prompt, upload your own image, select a voice, and save the finished avatar to your team's Library—ready to reference in a later creation request through Chat or the Flow Editor.

What you can do

Generate an avatar from a prompt

In Avatar Appearance, choose AI Generate, pick a model and aspect ratio, write a description of the presenter, and optionally attach reference images if the selected model supports them. Playad produces a preview image for you to review before you continue.

Upload your own presenter image

Choose Use My Image to upload and crop a photo instead of generating one. Keep the presenter's mouth clearly visible; a hidden or obscured mouth will prevent the avatar from being used in speaking videos.

Browse and save library avatars

Open Avatars from the main navigation and use Browse to search the shared presenter library. Filter by gender, age, and ethnicity, then open a presenter to review it and save it to your team's Library. Availability depends on your team's plan.

Set a profile and select a voice

After appearance, enter the avatar's name and review profile fields such as type, gender, age, and personality. On the next step, review and select the voice for the presenter before submitting the creation request.

Reuse avatars across ad creative

Saved avatars appear in your team's Library and can be referenced in Chat when building video ads. Include the avatar reference alongside your product, audience, script, and desired duration to generate avatar-led creative.

Request avatar-led video ads through Chat

In Chat, describe the avatar, product, audience, message, and placement. Chat proposes a flow you can preview, adjust, and then send to the Flow Editor or Projects for further editing and generation.

How it works

1. Open Avatars and start creation

Select Avatars in the main navigation. To build a new presenter, choose Create from Scratch to enter the Avatar Appearance step. If your team has reached its custom avatar limit, Playad will open the upgrade flow instead.

2. Generate or upload an appearance

Choose AI Generate and describe your presenter—model, aspect ratio, and an optional reference image—then review the generated image. Or choose Use My Image, upload a photo, and crop it so the mouth is fully visible.

3. Complete the profile and voice steps

Select Set Avatar Profile to move to the profile step without finishing creation yet. Enter a name and review type, gender, age, and personality fields. Proceed to Voice Selection and pick the voice for the presenter.

4. Generate and check the avatar

Choose Generate Avatar to submit the creation request. Open Library under Avatars to find the finished avatar once processing is complete. Confirm it appears there before using it in creative work.

5. Use the avatar in a video ad via Chat

Go to Chat, start a New Chat for your team and brand, and describe the video ad you need. Reference the saved avatar along with the product, target audience, script, and format. Review the flow card Chat proposes before continuing.

6. Review and refine generated creative

Open the flow preview in Chat to check the proposed avatar-led ad. Ask Chat to adjust the concept, presenter use, or messaging. Finalize the project in Flow Editor or Projects and find generated media in Creations.

Example request

Create a 15-second square video ad using the Jordan avatar for our skincare brand. Target audience is women aged 28–45. Highlight our new SPF moisturizer and a limited-time 20% launch offer.

Hypothetical example: fitness app avatar ad

Input: A user opens Avatars, chooses Create from Scratch, selects AI Generate, and types 'confident woman in her 30s, neutral studio background, professional athleisure.' They pick a 1:1 aspect ratio, review the generated image, set the profile name to 'Alex,' and choose an upbeat voice before selecting Generate Avatar.

Review: The user opens Library, confirms Alex is available, then starts a New Chat and types: 'Create a 15-second square video ad for our fitness app using the Alex avatar. Audience is adults aged 25–40 interested in home workouts. Highlight the free first month.' They review the flow card Chat proposes, open the flow preview, and continue to Flow Editor to finalize the creative.

Before you start

Custom avatar creation depends on your team's plan; reaching the custom avatar limit opens the upgrade flow rather than allowing additional creation.

The presenter's mouth must be clearly visible in the uploaded or generated image. A crop, pose, or object that hides it requires you to replace or adjust the image before proceeding.

Reference image support during AI generation depends on the model selected; not all models accept reference images.

Saving or accessing library avatars depends on team access and plan limits; some presenters in Browse may not be available to all teams.

Avatar creation is a multi-step request; choosing Set Avatar Profile advances setup but does not finish the avatar. The avatar is only complete after Generate Avatar is submitted and appears in Library.

Chat-based avatar ad creation requires the avatar to already be saved in Library; the avatar reference is included in the Chat prompt alongside other ad inputs.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start to create an AI avatar in Playad?

Open Avatars from the main navigation and choose Create from Scratch. This opens the Avatar Appearance step where you can generate an image from a prompt or upload your own photo.

Can I use my own photo as the avatar's appearance?

Yes. In the Avatar Appearance step, choose Use My Image to upload and crop a presenter photo. Make sure the mouth is clearly visible; hiding it prevents the avatar from working in speaking video ads.

What happens if my team has already reached its custom avatar limit?

Choosing Create from Scratch will open the upgrade flow rather than the avatar creation steps. Check your team's limit before attempting creation to avoid unexpected interruptions.

How do I use a saved avatar in a video ad?

Once the avatar appears in Library, go to Chat, start a New Chat, and include the avatar reference in your request along with the product, audience, script, and ad format. Chat will propose a flow you can preview and refine.

Is the avatar finished as soon as I set the profile?

No. Setting the Avatar Profile advances the setup but does not complete creation. You must also complete Voice Selection and choose Generate Avatar. Check Library afterward to confirm the avatar is ready.

Can I browse ready-made avatars instead of building one from scratch?

Yes. The Browse tab in Avatars shows the shared presenter library. You can filter by gender, age, and ethnicity, review a presenter, and save it to your team's Library. Availability depends on your team's plan.

“We went from 20 hours a week making ads to one, and our ROAS still climbed from 1.5 to 2.34. Playad just does the work better than we did.”
